PhD candidate, UCSC and Former Vice President of Developer Tools at Apple
Ted is a Biomolecular Engineering / Bioinformatics Ph.D. candidate at the University of California at Santa Cruz working on a comprehensive theory of the molecular processes of cancer. He is a member of the Haussler Lab TCGA Data Analysis team and the Haussler Stand Up to Cancer Dream team.
Ted is a former Vice President of Developer Tools at Apple Computer and is transitioning into a full time biotech scientist. At Apple, Ted’s team created the Mac OS X and iOS runtime systems and the Xcode developer tools for Apple’s Intel, iPhone and iPad products. As an innovator in electronic commerce, programming environments and smart card technologies, Ted has received nine patents related to C++, Java, and E-commerce.
He is currently Chief Strategy Officer at Ecrio Inc., a leader in mobile phone software. Previously, he held the titles of CTO and Vice President of Engineering at The Brodia Group, and he was also Vice President of Business and Technology at ActivCard. During his time as Chief Java Commerce Officer at Sun Microsystems, Ted championed Java’s success in early Internet banking and electronic commerce by spearheading the engineering and standards development of the Java Electronic Commerce Framework, and Java Card, the most popular smart card platform with 98% market share. Java Card is the foundation of the Visa smartcard platform and the U.S. Department of Defense’s Common Access Card identity card. Before Sun, Ted was an innovator in object-technology at the famous Xerox Palo Alto Research Center, where Ted was a cofounder and member of the managing team that spun off ParcPlace Systems, the inventors of the Smalltalk system, into a separate company.
